居座り盗（つと）めというのは、たとえば料理屋の客となって酒飯をし、勘定をすませたのちに、小用にでも立つふりをして、屋内の一角に隠れてしまい、夜がふけてからあらわれ、外の仲間を引き入れるとか、または単独で盗みをする

こうしたときに、履物が残っていては怪しまれるので、そこは、いろいろと技巧を要するわけだが、たとえば、いったん履物をはいてから、

「お庭が結構だ。ひとまわりさせて下さいよ」

などといって、外から屋内へまわり込み、隠れてしまう

そうしたことは、居座りを得意とする盗賊にとって、

「わけもない・・・・・・」

ことなのである
